The project

In February 2025, a micro-forest comprising 750 native trees and shrubs was planted in Overijse on a 250 m² plot of land next to the Justus Lipsius care home in Emeis.
This project was made possible thanks to the support of the Jane Goodall Institute Belgium, in collaboration with the care home’s residents, JGI volunteers and pupils from Sint-Martinuscollege.

This plot was formerly used for agricultural purposes. Today, this afforestation marks an important first step in creating a peaceful, biodiversity-rich space where residents can take a stroll, enjoy the surroundings and relax.

Why a micro-forest here?

  • To transform former agricultural land into a living ecosystem
  • To restore biodiversity in an urbanised area where woodland is scarce and often small in size
  • To bring younger and older generations together through nature
  • To create a new space for well-being and socialising
